Maurizio studied design and architecture in his hometown of Turin, Italy. Since the start of his freelance career in 2004, he has illustrated around 40 children’s books for Italian, Spanish and French publishers, receiving The Best Picture Book of 2006 for Babu Cerca Casa. From 2005 through 2008 Quarello’s work has been chosen for the Illustrators’ Exhibition of the Bologna Children’s Book Fair, and exhibited in 2009 at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Santiago de Compostela (Spain). The challenge of creating books for so many different subjects encourages Maurizio to joyfully experiment with new techniques. He imparts his vast illustration knowledge in Master Classes in Macerata, Italy, as well as sharing his enthusiasm for art with children at art schools, libraries and book festivals throughout Europe. At present, the artist lives with his fellow artist/wife, Lucie, and their two cats in South Bohemia, Czech Republic.
