Elaine Davis: Illustrator I am an illustrator working in a digital format, I use Corel Painter to create my artwork as I feel this gives me the most diverse use of brushes and drawing tools for my hand drawn digital images. After studying art and design in Glasgow, Scotland, I worked as an illustrator through an agency where my clients included Asda, Scotch corner and Ulster Weavers and I worked on jobs as diverse as educational booklets to designs for toilet paper. After the agent retired, I changed my career path for a few years and worked in animal welfare before returning to art again. Initially my return was as a painter and I successfully exhibited in galleries across Scotland as well as Birmingham, Peterborough and London. I came back to illustration, my first love, several years ago and one of my first clients was Scottish storyteller Michael Kerins who self-published a series of books called; “The Adventures of weetom” which are now taught in many Scottish primary schools. A previous visit to Bologna Children’s Book Fair yielded a commission from a Hong Kong based company to produce a series of ten panoramic educational books to be add-ons to their toy products. A visit to the fair this year has also led to interest from publishers in America and Australia.
