Valentina Tikhonova Artist/Illustrator. I have moved and travelled around a lot, which had a significant impact on my life. My art and illustrations reflect these travels and moves; meeting people, visiting new places/countries, loving coffee, and the feelings these things evoked. I love doing first-hand research and taking pictures. When I first started drawing grids it helped put me in a state of calm. I noticed that, when I sketched the lines, I felt free from my inner thoughts and worries. So now, I always keep a small sketchbook and some pen/pencil in my bag. Over time, I have tried many different mediums such as coloured pencils, watercolour, gouache, acryl, graffiti spray and ink. I love using ink because the line transforms itself on its own. Over the years I have developed my signature style and produced a body of work that reflects my life experiences. The goal of my illustrations is to help people to understand that any experience in our lives can be beneficial and that there are a lot of techniques to help us to reduce anxiety and develop healthy wellbeing. Collection “Mood” was started during the first lockdown and reflects what I felt every day for 30 days. I have not stopped drawing, but it is once or twice a week now. My other collection, “Grid”, started many years ago and mostly in pen. Now I use ink and work in Adobe Ai to develop a poster style. Typically, a grid visually represents restriction, but for me, it represents freedom; freedom from my worries and a release from my own restrictions that I express through my process of creation. Colours are added to create layers that represent my emotions during the process/drawing/release of restriction. Collection “Fantasy/Surreal” is based on a grid as well, but it is what I pull out of acrylic and ink drawing in colours. I create the grid in colour first. Dry it out and then see how colours and lines work together to shape objects. The result is always amazing no matter how I create it or what I use for drawing lines, it can even be as simple as a stick or piece of paper/cardboard. Its very relaxing and it is also fun to do. My guilty pleasure is watching Planets, Human Universe, Ancient Aliens as well as learning anything about space, planets, and stars. I am looking forward to working with you!
