My name is Sam Horton, and I am an illustrator working in Wales. I trained as a costume designer but, after working for a few years in the industry, realised that really what I loved was drawing the characters and designing images rather that making the clothes. So I quit and am now working as an Illustrator, which I love as it means I can spend my time drawing and painting things that interest me, and still get inspiration from books and films, which is something I enjoyed as a designer.I moved from Brighton to a small village in west Wales a few months ago, and am now exploring a whole new environment to influence my work. I combine traditional ink and brush, pencil and charcoal techniques to create monochromatic images that are then scanned into, and coloured in, photoshop. This gives me lots of control over how my final images look, and allows me to make confident and bold choices in composition and layout.
