Emissary of the Wondering Mile

Essentially a peace talk between two warring species. Acrylic on board.

Desk Lamp

I imagine a civilization based on magic as opposed to science, and so far advanced that wondrous beings are essentially playing mundane roles like the dinosaurs in the Flintstones. Acrylic on board.

Alltogether At Dawn

Conceptually, a hybrid creature, composed of devils and teddy bears. Acrylic on board.

Carrion Call

I always liked the idea that ideas can occupy an ecosystem within an artist's brain. And similar to a real ecosystem, there are predators and prey. Some ideas may die so that others can live. Mixed media on watercolor paper.

Dreemeeter

An idea eating other ideas. Mixed media on wood panel.

MJM Winkler 2017

Corpseblossom

More decorative than narrative but I do like the juxtaposition of life and death. Mixed media on paper.

The House at Fine and Dandy

You may have seen a similar scene in some cartoons. A house or castle where it's always night. I tried to encapsulate that feeling, and add that perhaps the dark isn't as bad as it first appears, nor the light as good. Mixed media on paper.

Hydra on Tin Wheels

As we move to the future through technological advancement, I've noticed that life and technology are moving closer and closer. One day they might be indistinguishable from each other. For now our attempts at artificial life convey an uncomfortable feeling for the most part. I tried to create an amalgam of something mechanical, a wind-up toy, and a creepy semblance of life in the hydra's 8 heads. Mixed media on paper.

Care and Feeding

I painted it because I couldn't put it into words. Mixed media on paper.

Sporks at Sundown

I feel the spork is slowly being forgotten as an icon, but, for me, there's a certain something in the design. A shape that is organic and curve-linear but for the stamped-out teeth. Acrylic on wood panel.

Tagalong

Honestly just having fun with forms and color, although snails hold a certain fascination for me. I like the idea of the moment the snail realizes that there's somebody hitching a ride. Mixed media on paper.

Of Toilers and Tar Grass

Little guys with handles and their handler, tending to the dark patches in my brain. Weird I know. Mixed media on paper.

Hepatascopy

Hepatascopy is one of the words describing a voodoo ritual by which the practitioner can supposedly divine the future by reading patterns in the splayed entrails of a freshly sacrificed animal. This is my interpretation. Mixed media on paper.

In Defense of Reading

The idea has become a cliche, for a very good reason: good books come to life. Mixed media on board.
