relegation football

On Saturday 22th May the German Soccerteam VfB Stuttgart played against SC Paderborn 07. It was one of the seasons last matches. For both teams a defeat meant relegation to 2. league. Since the Daily Newspapers "Stuttgarter Zeitung" and "Stuttgarter Nachrichten" couldn´t predict the outcome I was asked to illustrate the dramatic situation.

Biography

Malte Knaack was born in Minden, Germany in 1979. He´s been drawing pictures as far as he can remember. He studied Illustration and Communication Design at the university of applied sciences in Hamburg. Before starting out as a freelance illustrator Malte Knaack worked at G+J Wirtschaftsmedien in Hamburg designing pages for Financial Times Deutschland and it´s weekend supplement. During this time quite a lot of his illustrations were published there and in the business magazines Capital and Business Punk. Since 2011 Malte worked as a freelance illustrator and designer for several newspapers and magazines as well as for advertising agencys and other companys. Since then his work has been awarded with several european newspaper awards. After a long time in Hamburg and a Summer at the School of Viual Arts in New York, he is now living with his family in the tiny city of soltau in the Lüneburg Heath. He likes skateboarding.
