Marsha Balaeva is an illustrator and animator living in the North West. Having graduated with an MA in Illustration from University of Hertfordshire, she specialises in illustrating adult fiction using a range of techniques from fully hand-drawn to digital. Gravitating towards figurative drawing, her work is detailed, with strong emphasis on composition and often includes surreal imagery as a focal point. In addition to illustration, Balaeva is involved in a long standing collaboration with Canadian indie bands Moonface and Frog Eyes, which involves creating animated videos using stop-motion photography, puppets, drawings and digital animation. One of these music videos titled 'Faraway Lightning" was shown at KLIK! Animation Festival in Amsterdam and was at №8 in Time Out 'The 40 best music videos of 2012'. Her most recent animation "Joe with the Jam" for Frog Eyes was described by Pitchfork as "haunting and evocative".
