I started drawing when I was young back in Kharkiv, Ukraine. Some of what I remember was looking into old Russian art books and trying to copy drawing of my favorite portrait artists, such as Valentin Serov and Ilya Repin. Much later I ended up going to art school in the US to complete my Bachelors of Fine art in Painting and Drawing from the University of Utah. I often draw people that have played some part in my life and/or inspire me in one way or another. I also love to paint or draw landscapes or scenes from my imagination. Because I draw mainly with pen, a medium you can’t erase, I learned to pay particular attention to line quality. When drawing I like to combine loose and almost chaotic lines together with tight detailed ones to give my drawings a sense of energy and movement. I paint in a very similar way to my drawings, using bright colors loosely next to more detailed and muted colored areas to create the same sense of movement and energy in my paintings as in my drawings.
