Profile
As a child Tom Cocotos did not speak until he was five and found himself instead tearing and cutting up magazine pages, deconstructing and then reconstructing the text and images into something totally new which he would employ to communicate with his family. Today Tom continues to collage, with a studio located in Chelsea, New York City. His clients include The New York Times, Sports Illustrated, Newsweek, Random House, Simon & Schuster, Penguin Books, MTV/VH1, Citibank, Ford Motors, Nabisco, RJ Reynolds, Ogilvy + Mather and Grey Advertising. Awards include American Illustration, Society of Illustrators NY and LA, Communication Arts and 3x3. In addition to commercial artwork, personal studio work has led to residencies and one-person exhibitions in Berlin, Buenos Aires, Lisbon, Athens, Los Angeles and Miami. Cocotos has lectured at the School of Visual Arts, Parsons, Fashion Institute of Technology, Ringling College, Oolite Arts, and PANAL 361. He holds an MFA from the School of Visual Arts, and an undergraduate degree in Engineering from Columbia University.
