IDEA SONORA

SHUSH!

Next Image Title

Artist Name

Every single artwork starts with the illustrator thinking about what to illustrate. Curiously, in this case, the final artwork depicts the own illustrator asking for a bit of silence while trying to find out what to illustrate. This is SHUSH! A piece about sound and ideas, commissioned by Idea Sonora, my favorite sound recording studio. A large scale mural, tees, postcards, stickers,… A funny whole collection of onomatopoeic stuff.

illustration of I spend most of my time at home. I work in here. I wind in here. I play in here. I dream in here. I hunt in here. It is my choice. I chose to be close to my family as much as possible. I don’t even have a proper studio, a private room with a door. No, I’ve just got a table in the middle of the living room. I like it that way.
illustration of Having a company is like jumping into a pool. That was the idea behind this widespread campaign for Bankia created by PINGÜINO-TORREBLANCA advertising agency. Joyful lads jumping into impossible waters. A collection of far conceptual and pretty surreal images. Not the usual stuff for a bank. It was certainly a very funny experience. Lucky Gregori.

illustration of An astronaut roasting a whole lamb in the Moon. La Mona, a very popular music icon in Argentina, doing the King Kong thing. A gaucho turning his donkey into a zebra. These were the kind of images that the crazy guys from SANTO, the awarded advertising agency based in Buenos Aires, wanted Gregori to depict. The mission was clear: make Argentinians not only drink, but laugh. The final result was all over the country as part of a major outdoor campaign.

illustration of After all these years living and working in the UK I thought it was time to pay some tribute to the second British institution after the royalty: the public houses, more commonly known as pubs. There is a massive variety of them as there are all types of people. The locals, the outcomers, the chatters, the readers, the late eaters, the early drinkers and the epic ones, the last ones to leave, those who end the night drunk and primal.
illustration of They are the new kids on the block and they want to change the story. At least, the story of parcel services. They are APINYÓ, a new company with a powerful aim: any message goes faster on a bike. It was extremely funny to take those famous fairy tales to another level, where the story is about to change thanks to these early delivered messages, warning that the apple is poison or a ferocious wolf awaits for you in your grandma's pyjamas.

illustration of Blanc Pescador is one of Spain’s top selling white wines and can be found in almost every restaurant along Spain’s Mediterranean coast. But it is more than just a wine. It’s an icon. A symbol of the Mediterranean lifestyle. Its label remained untouched for decades until Grup Peralada asked Morera Design for rethinking it. To be the one in charge of illustrating the new design, keeping the old traditional spirit but in a brand new way was, obviously, an amazing experience.

illustration of When a probed successful brand identity agency commissions you to develop its own brand identity is a tricky business. That's exactly the kind of challenge that Bloom, the brand experts based in London, came up with. They are weird, smart and remarkably capable. What kind of figure might represent these highly peculiar bunch of skills?
animation of Life is an unexpected experience, and being chosen to direct and illustrate this tv commercial for El País, the global newspaper, was a probe of it. SCPF, the internationally awarded advertising agency, wanted me to convert a childish animal sounds list into an critical audiovisual litany. It was one of the most challenging projects I ever got. Fortunately I assembled an amazing team who made it possible.
illustration of Brand new creative concept for this soft drink by Coca-Cola. Zero sugar, zero weight. Four words to be translated into a notorious image. Go as further as you like, Gregori - they said. Mmmmm... That was quite interesting. Get ready. Ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one,...
illustration of I wanted to illustrate the weird concept of human passion. My own passion. In an abstract way. Passion overwhelms our rational mechanisms. We believe because we want to believe. We jump into relations or experiences totally blinded by passionate feelings. And in the meantime, the people around, stare at us from the distance. Feeling sorry, feeling jealous.
animation of First there was a song. Afterwards there was an illustration. And finally there was an illustration in motion. Curious, isn't it? 4Funkies, an online services company, asked me to bring a song specially created for them into a large format illustration. No probs. But once it was done, they came with a new request. -Would you mind to move it on?-. You may imagine the answer, don't you?
illustration of Every single year, the town of Cadiz, in Andalucia, southern Spain, celebrates its unique version of the carnival where the main protagonists are the so called
illustration of The new novel by the talented Catalan writer Jordi Cervera is a book about books. An extremely visual piece of literature that describes a future ruled by a new Ottoman empire. Thanks to the movies, we have seen most of the main cities of the world smashed down by all sorts of catastrophes. Miquel Puig Estudi commissioned me to illustrate this book cover so I had the opportunity to destroy Barcelona. Just illustratively, no panic.
illustration of The new and edgy fashion brand from London that tells a story about beautiful kids' clothes, underpinned by sustainability with plenty of rock n' roll attitude, selected four artists to illustrate their first collection of t-shirts. Garments that are not only designed well, but are also made to dress responsibly.
illustration of London 2012 is almost here. Music themes for this important worldwide event will be requested. EMI Records commissioned this artwork for the Fever Pitch album. An epic music collection for olympic epic victories.
illustration of The legacy of the Georgians is all around here, in the architecture, parks and streets of London and Britain’s provincial towns and cities. This vast exhibition brings to life the trials and triumphs of the ordinary people who transformed Britain forever.
illustration of The loss of bugs is no small matter. Insects help stitch together the web of life with essential services, breaking plants down into organic matter and dispersing seeds. They are a prime source of food for birds. But every time we lay on the grass we kill an average amount of 50 bugs. That means our picnics are exterminating the insect population. We should think about it, just in case reincarnation is true and next life you are a ladybug.
animation of A tv series produced by TVE in association with ZOOPA. A very free and personal interpretation of twenty masterpieces of our universal culture. From novels to operas. From Moby Dick to Antigone. From Verdi to Shakespeare. 20 pieces, 90 seconds each. No time for boring.

illustration of London is a city plenty of gorgeous museums, but there's one I love most, the Horniman. It is not the biggest one, or the most spectacular. But that place created by a man, the Victorian tea trader Frederick John Horniman in the 1860s full of specimens and artifacts from around the world is really magic. Thousand animals posing dead. Crazy. That man was extremely curious, a madly collector. Just like me.
illustration of King’s Cross is being completely transformed. There is and will be a lot going on around this London area. That’s exactly what this huge artwork created alongside Socrates for D&D London is all about. A celebration of urban life. This 790m2 mural will be in place around the former German Gymnasium while renovation work is ongoing.
illustration of Another gorgeous project by Morera Design Studio for Peralada Wines. The challenge: to create one whole illustration for the new labels of three different wines. Both three fruit of the same vineyard. Each one made of different types of grapes, but all them grown under extremely peculiar conditions in a unique place: an old oak forest near Rueda (SPAIN). The oak factor was key. It is what sticks everything together, where everything happens.
illustration of There is not much to say about Le Monde. One of the most respected newspapers in France and also worldwide. They had in mind an special issue about the dynamic, multicultural and eccentric city of London. There were four articles they wanted me to illustrate. Later on, they asked me for illustrating the cover. You can easily imagine my answer, don't you?
illustration of Tickets for the next 2012 London Olympic Games are already out there. Also the posters to announce it everywhere. It will be an unique opportunity to meet the best athletes in the world, the fastest ones, the strongest, the bravest. That was the brief for this powerful image about powerful people.
illustration of There is a different London for each one of us. We all come to meet our own one. But we all know expectation leads to disappointment. Sooner or later we must face it. London is not the perfect choice we imagined. There is a bright side of London, and a dark one as well. So what? I must admit I am still in love with you sweet and tough London.
illustration of Complexity use to be part of Gregori's work, but this assignment was the cherry on top of the cake. The mission: to illustrate some horses. Just one question. Any special type of horses? Yes, of course, that ones made of 250-300 small pieces. You know, a little bit of this, this, this, this, this, this and this. Oh, and do not forget that too, please.
illustration of New artwork for the Mini ONE model latest advertising campaign. A little bit of New York, some London, a pinch of Beijing, Paris, Moscow, Amsterdam, San Francisco, Tokyo, Mumbai, Berlin, Milano, Chicago, Marrakech, Barcelona,... A landscape made of hundred cities for a car made for any kind of city. Much more than a big image, a big challenge.
illustration of Alfredo Arribas, soul of this project, has a passion for the world of design and illustration. This passion led him to a daring idea: change the labels of his beloved wines, Negre de Negres and Somni, into small works of art. And so, after a rigorous screening process, artist Gregori Saavedra was chosen to visualize the two parallel worlds of Negre de Negres and Somni; two magical universes populated by an wonderful array of intriguing creatures.

illustration of Secret 7’’ took 7 tracks from 7 of the best-known musicians around and press each one 100 times to 7” vinyl. They then invite artists to interpret the tracks in their own style, resulting in a one-of-a-kind sleeve for every 7”. The vision was to fundraise a bit differently, to create a positive and fun experience for both designers and art fans and contribute with their work to a good cause. Gregori choose the new single TEAM by the Grammy's winner Lorde.
illustration of Do we create or do we just transform? Do we have a real plan? How do we want this place to look like? Is this the landscape we want to see from our windows? Yes? No? Is it harder to stop it than to keep building it? Maybe that's it. We work like dogs to build that but we are lazy to stop it. It's easier to do than to think. Weird, isn't?
illustration of A music band from Basque Country called Berri Txarrak called me for illustrating and designing their new album titled Payola. A latin word mostly used in America. It means dirty money, the one that music labels use to pay to radio stations for broadcasting the themes by their own bands. In three words: a nasty deal.
illustration of None in the team behind this project was interested in doing something orthodox. We were all in pursuit of something far beyond. Something outstanding and remarkable. Pork & Tuna is meant to be anything but the usual charcuterie or winery shop. So, why not create a large scale illustrated mural to decorate its floating and retroilluminated ceiling? Or, what about two of them, one for the charcuterie area and another for the winery shop? Alright, here you have them both. Enjoy the parade.
illustration of It happened to me that I was kept into the bottom of a dark cave. My mind was squashed under a mount of duties and worries. There was no room for any good idea. I was lost in that darkness. But one day I stepped out of that warren and walked up the stairs to the roof. That view was absolutely different. That new point of view changed everything. There was a new map over there.
illustration of My gallerists in Barcelona challenged me. Would you ever be able to chase the beast instead of the beauty? This time I did not give an straight yes, but an uncertain maybe. And here I am, looking for something I did never look for. Ugliness. A very difficult mission. Specially for me. A guy obesesed with the good looking side of everything.

illustration of It is not all just about visual surprise or making the impossible, plausible. It is also about the meaning of objects. Behind our ordinary stuff there are ideas and concepts to play with. To get connected, mixed, linked. Then everything changes. A new object with a different meaning emerges. The secret is to conceive the object as an unfinished thing and give it a new ending story.

illustration of Reality has its boring rules. Time, space, weight, bla, bla, bla. But in dreams anything goes. In dreams you do not need to be yourself. In dreams you can be anyone. Even a tinny big belly fisherman. In dreams you can spend hours under water. In dreams you do not need to breath. In dreams, sometimes, everything is just black and white.
illustration of We are creative and destructive. We humans know that. And one day we humans will have to pay for this excess of creativity. We create too much waste. We still hide our rubbish. It is embarrassing. Recycle is the least we all should do. If we don't do it, we will run out of space.
