Hugh Syme was approached by the New Trail Magazine from the University of Alberta to depict a silent topic; dementia. Dementia isn’t discussed often enough but should be since it affects 225,000 people every year. Hugh’s illustrations capture the reality of living with dementia through dim lighting which is consistent throughout the dramatic series. The images sensitively represent the blurry separation between fantasy, memories, and reality.
