Profile
I’ve been an illustrator for more than 20 years. I wrote and illustrated a children’s picture book, One Bright Ring, which was published in 2013 by Henry Holt & Co. My work has been exhibited internationally. I work in a variety of media, including graphite, watercolor, pastels, and pen & ink, as well as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, both of which I've taught at the college level. Most of my illustrations are finished on the computer, but I nearly always begin with traditional media. Even when creating vector artwork, I start with a drawing before using digital tools. For the digital components of my illustrations, I use an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil. Working electronically gives me greater freedom to play with color, redraw elements, and make changes requested by an editor or art director. I’m also fond of 3-D paper modeling and enjoy teaching it to children. When I’m not creating images, I like to read and practice yoga. I meditate daily. I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area but lived for many years in New York City. Currently I live in Albany, New York, with my teenaged daughter.
