Profile
I feel very fortunate to have my career as an illustrator. It started way back in the mid 1980’s. I was working as a freelance graphic designer when I heard that local publishers Ladybird Books sometimes used freelance designers. I managed to get to see the art director there. In amongst my portfolio of design work I had included some of my illustrations. To my delight one of the illustrations caught the art directors eye. He thought that the style might suit a series of books that they were considering doing. That series was The Masters of the Universe. I was asked to do a couple of sample illustrations for it, and given a few of the Mattel toys to use as reference. I was absolutely thrilled when Ladybird and Mattel liked and approved the samples, and I was chosen as the illustrator for the books! Since then I have gone on to illustrate books for several leading publishers over the years, including a great many Thomas the Tank Engine storybooks for Egmont Publishing. I love doing what I do, and continually strive to make the next project better than the previous one.
